About Me In my early 20's, while spending a long summer in Boulder, I stumbled into my first yoga class. To be honest, I don't even remember how I got there but I did. It turned out to be one of the most challenging 90 minutes of my entire life. But by the end of class, in final resting pose, a strange sense of peace and calm came over me. And so, I kept on coming back. In time, the practice became less challenging and that feeling of peace and calm began to filter out into my every day life. I was hooked! A few years later, I moved to Los Angeles where I met and practiced with some amazing teachers who awakened me to the sat-guru (the guru within.) Instead of yoga being part of my life, it became my life. Inspired to share in the way that my teachers were sharing, I embarked upon my first teacher training program with Shiva Rea. In Shiva's training, I experienced a huge heart opening allowing me to bring a new found sense of love, compassion, and heart-centered connection to both my own personal practice and teaching. Sitting in meditation, after 2 grueling weeks of asana practice, my heart burst wide open and tears began to flow uncontrollably down my face. At first, I tried to stop myself from crying. But from deep within, I heard a voice that said 'surrender'. And so that's exactly what I did. I surrendered to the divine love that was flowing through me. From that moment on, the act of surrendering became a huge part of both my practice as a student and teacher. Shortly after Shiva's training, I began teaching privately out of my studio apartment in Santa Monica. I really enjoyed teaching privates but also felt a strong desire to spread my wings and share my knowledge and wisdom with more people. And so, I was led to complete my second teacher training program with Tamal Dodge. Tamal's playful spirit reminded me that yoga doesn't always have to be taken so seriously. It can be practiced with a smile on your face and taught from a space of playful exploration. After Tamal's training, I began teaching classes at Shakti's Elements, 24 Hour Fitness, & L.A Fitness. I can currently be found teaching group classes in NYC. In addition to my 400 hours of teacher training hours, I feel so incredibly blessed to have studied privately and/or taken workshop with Tom Knowles (Vedic meditation,) Heather Neeraja Parsons (kirtan/bhakti yoga studies,) Bhagavan Das (nada yoga), and many more amazing teachers. |
